Among listening, speaking, reading and writing, writing skill is the hardest to aquire. At present, teaching of writing skills still adopts the traditional method of "giving the topic by the teachers, writing by the students, evaluating by the teachers." In such cases, students neither know what to write nor how to write, which leads to the low efficiency of writing teaching and the reluctance of the students. In order to change this situation, the CFLT researchers and teachers try to introduce the concept of task-based teaching Chinese writing teaching in recent years. Is it effective to lead tasks into writing teaching? What are the roles of the teachers and students in the task-based writing process? How to motivate the students? What are the tricks of designing writing tasks?This article investigated International Exchange Office of Shanghai University of Engineering Science. This dissertation carried out class observation, interview and questionnaire among the intermediate level students in order to analyze the task in the writing class by the qualitative and quantitative study so that advises can be given to the writing classes teaching. The author mainly discussed the influence of the task (especially the pre-task activity) to the effect of writing and the performance of the teachers and students. Then the students’ attitude were obtained and analyzed by questionnaire. Some advice is given for the writing class for the foreign mandarin learners.The conclusions of the paper are as follows:1. Students have preference in writing tasks. Tasks with separated themes, intercommunications are favored.2. Tasks play important roles in students writing training, especially in the preparation stage.3. In the process of giving the tasks, students are the center of the teaching. They construct the knowledge of system by participating in the tasks.Based on the analysis, the following recommendations would be given:1.Tasks with separated themes and intercommunications should be more considered while designing tasks.2. The simulation of real-life situation should be enhanced.3.input materials and forms of tasks should be diversified, and so on.The characteristics of this thesis:The main method is case study method. Researcher understands the implementation of the task-based teaching of writing to explore the affect of writing task (especially the pre-mission activities on students’ writing by the observation of specific cases, recording and analyzing, observed teachers, students to complete the task. And the case study is supplemented by a questionnaire survey to investigate the attitude of the students of Intermediate Chinese Writing task. So, the conclusion is more convincing by the combining of the case description and data analysis.
