So far, studies on simultaneous interpreting (SI) practice have been conducted numerous times, with focus on the principle of syntactic linearity. There is no doubt that linguistic, sociological, media factor all contribute to the paramount position of the principle. Specifically, however, the sole principle is not enough for a satisfactory English-Chinese SI output as the two languages have wide differences which we can not afford to ignore or undervalue. So the awareness and knowledge of the differences mentioned above becomes very necessary. Although scholars both at home and abroad have carried out lots of research on SI and its key techniques, recognizing their necessity and value, there are limited studies conducted on the combination of the principle of syntactic linearity and its methods based on the key differences between the two languages. So I would like to have a try in this respect and discuss better possibilities to do a good job in SI.Considering the differences and the expected interpreting output, I am for the strategy of repetition as proposed by some scholars because it, as a flexible and reality-based maneuver, can produce rich expressions and a satisfactory SI practice. Therefore, we may find the use of repetition in the SI process very necessary, serving as an indispensable complement for syntactic linearity in E-C SI.Liu Wei did a similar research in this aspect. Being too micro-oriented, his paper did not come up with any systematic summarization or solution, for he only stressed on the differences and connections between different words. This paper is going to list the category of repetition from a macro perspective and illustrate the proper use of repetition. Therefore, I want to mainly look at the SI technique of repetition as a complement to syntactic linearity through a SI case study of Global Challenges in2012delivered by Christine Lagarde, managing Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and explore its effectiveness and practicability.
