With the rapid development of China’s economy and the deepening of globalization, more and more international conferences are being held in China and foreign-related activities are also increasing day by day, which generates great demands for interpreting service. As a relatively new profession, related professional codes of interpreting remain to be set up and optimized. Interpreting quality could be considered as the life for interpreting service. As a result, a scientific evaluation for interpreting quality will greatly enhance the healthy development of interpreting as a profession.Based on former studies on interpreting quality, this thesis tries to put forward a model for dynamic evaluation standards from the two aspects of speaker and listener. According to text typology theory proposed by Reiss and Newmark, interpreting can be classified into expressive, informative and vocative interpreting based on the ST, i.e. the speaker’s speech. The evaluation of expressive interpreting emphasizes the form consistency between target text (TT) and source text (ST); informative interpreting focuses on the transfer of the content of the original message; and the evaluation of vocative interpreting should put the communicative effect at the first place. As the user of the interpreting service, listeners play an important role in evaluating interpreting quality. Users’ expectation (mainly listeners’ expectation) will influence their evaluation of interpreting quality directly. Numerous studies suggest that, different users have different expectations for interpreting quality. On the basis of former theoretical and empirical researches, this thesis adopts occupation and education level as the two parameters to classify user expectations. Taking the two major aspects that influence interpreting quality as variables, this thesis tentatively proposes a model of dynamic evaluation standards for interpreting quality. For a given interpreting task, the evaluation standards for interpreting quality can be set by the model, which not only provides more scientific methods for the evaluation of interpreting performance but also enable interpreters to make better preliminary preparation for the upcoming interpreting tasks. This model is hoped to work in the training programs to cultivate interpreters’ awareness of different requirements of interpreting tasks so as to improve the quality of interpreting service.
