This article studies from a particular perspective of Yuan Mei’s poetic criticism, including Yuan Mei’s critical theory, critical practice and its contemporary significance.Chapter I is focused on illustrating the important proposition "the poetry realm is very wide" in Yuan Mei’s poetry critical theory, which is a basical principle of his theory representing Yuan Mei’s criticical view. Yuan Mei believes " the poetry realm is very wide " due to the "Xing Qing", as a solid cornerstone of poetry."Xing Qing "and"Xing Ling" is synonymous in many cases, but "xing ling" sometimes focuses on skill and technique."Xing Qing" is more explicit in stressing the honesty. Corresponding to the attention on "Xing Qing", Yuan Mei attacked problems at that time to extend the proposition "the poetry realm is very wide"."Only working station, regardless of the dynasty ","A variety of styles ","Nothing to do with character",these propositions are aimed for fightting back the rigid standards of the times, the bias standards of the styles and the ethical standards.Chapter II is focused on illustrating another important proposition in Yuan Mei’s poetry critical theory,"the key to the poem is Qing Zhen".This reference is on behalf of aesthetic pursuit of Yuan Mei’s poetry criticism."Qing "is Yuan Mei’s most commonly used and most important critical term, as far as its characterization, its theme of the general meaning includes small, delicate emotion, plain of the language and the pure nature of images."Qing"is such a terminology that having strong communication skills. Those complex derivative concepts are having "Su" and "Chao" these two basic implications in common."Qing Zhen " may be seen as a compound word."Qing "mainly means elegance while "Zhen" means sincerity,a complementary relationship existing between the two concepts, meaning that the emotion must be strong and at the same time learning should be profound. Compared with "Xing Qing" and "Xing Ling","Qing Zhen" is poetry concept in full sense and a standard criticism term."The key to the poem is Qing Zhen" is also clearly reflected on Yuan Mei’s conception of language. Besides "The key to the poem is Qing Zhen", Yuan Mei proposes "Tian Lai is the best" in addition. These two are not contradictory."Tian Lai "can be considered a higher extent to "Qing Zhen" Based on the theoretical research on Yuan Mei’s poetic criticism in the first two chapters, chapter III studies Yuan Mei’s critical practice. In this article three poets are selected as examples, which are Du Fu,Wang Shizhen, Li E and Zhe Jiang poetry faciton. On Du Fu’s poetic criticism, Yuan Mei thinks Du Fu’s great achievement is in his occasional verse romance and fragrant sorrow. For his extraordinary courage Yuan Mei re-examines Du Fu’s poems and points out a number of flaws in Du Fu’s poems.About Wang Shizhen, Yuan Mei endorses his leadership in poetry but also points his weaknesses in its thin and false emotions. On the criticism about Li E,Yuan Mei affirms his "Qing Miao","Good at expression of feelings ",but on the overall criticism of the Zhe Jiang poetry faciton,Yuan Mei is dissatisfied with its astringent, showing different views on them. The fourth chapter is closely related to poetry and criticism since the new century, aimed at revealing the contemporary enlightenment of Yuan Mei’s poetry criticism."The poetry realm is very wide", its modern significance lying in its natural link with diversity ",in its inclusive critical stance."The key to the poem is Qing Zhen", which can be used to amended the slow loss of poetry and to fight back "saliva poems". Poetry critics should "enter" the poetry and base their courage on the insight, which is the most realistic inspiration of Yuan Mei’s critical theory, boycotting the intransitive criticism,"cool criticism" and calling the deep and detailed spirit in poetry criticism.
