With the historical process of national integration and rising social status of African Americans, AAVE(African American Vernacular English) and Black Culture are widely accepted now, even if it was once looked down upon. Meanwhile, scholars have begun to pay more attention to the AAVE in literary works. As a world-renowned classical romance, Gone with the Wind has been translated into many foreign languages. In China, it has been constantly retranslated since the1930s, then there are many versions of AAVE-Chinese translation. From the diachronic study of AAVE-Chinese translation, four kinds of AAVE-Chinese translation methods from the1930s to the1990s are summarized:equivalent Chinese dialect in the1930s; Chinese colloquialisms in the1950s; malapropisms in the1980s and dialect blending in the1990s. Being translated in different times, with different translation strategies and different purposes, Fu Donghua’s Piao(《飘》), Huan Huairen&Zhu Youruo’s Luan Shi Jia Ren(《乱世佳人》) and Li Meihua’s Piao(《飘》), those three versions are chosen to conduct a comparative study on AAVE-Chinese translation from the perspective of the Skopos Theory. This thesis attempts to analyse and compare the translations of slaves and nannies’ language of the three Chinese versions based on the Skopos Theory, then summary similarities and differences among the selected three versions from syntactic and lexical perspectives, which would be explained with three rules. Conclusions are finally reached that Fu Donghua chooses the method of equivalent Chinese dialect to introduce the epic love story, while Huang Huairen&Zhu Youruo decide to adopt the commoner ones of Chinese colloquialisms to be strictly faithful to the target text, and synthetically, Li Meihua’s neutralized method of dialect blending promotes former translations’advantages. Taking their respective social, historical and cultural background into account, the three translators adopt different methods on AAVE-Chinese translation with different translation purposes, anyway, they are all received by the readers and "adequacy". After a thorough review of the thesis, it also proves that the Skopos Theory is able to describe and analyse the phenomena and problems in literary translation, and is of great guiding significance to translation, both in theoretical and practical level.
