Analysis Of Medical Translation From The Perspective Of Stylistics

Stylistics is a subject which focuses on the stylistic features, the essence and regulation of the text, it is closely related with many fields of science. It has been a long history since foreign people started to study on Stylistics, but only a few decades in China since1949. Although the research in our country has emerged a momentum that multiple schools keep pace with each other in recent years, there is still a few researches concern the combination of Stylistics and some kind of specific subject, this kind of research is still in its infancy.The development of science and technology changes with each passing day, communication between countries becomes more and more frequent, so that science and technology translation (S&T translation) tends to be more useful. Medical translation, a branch of S&T translation, plays a more significant role in the communication between countries which is continuously broadened and deepened. As we all know, international conference on medicine, international surgery, import and export of medical equipment and pharmaceutical, translation of medical documents and so on, a great number of related fields need authoritative translation experts and professional talents. Nevertheless, experts in the field of medical translation and professional talents are quite a few in our country at present. Meanwhile, in this field, the translation activities rely heavily on experience. Therefore, there is still no systematic theory that the practice of translation can be based on.In the historical background which is called " globalization", on one hand, we need to learn and absorb the advanced medical technology from other countries, on the other hand, we should make traditional Chinese medicine and the new medical achievements known by more foreigners. Principle of " Faithfulness" and " Coherence" should be used in medical translation analysis, so are the stylistic features of medical English. Medical English possesses the common features of English of science and technology, however, it has its own distinguished stylistic features. Summary and research of the stylistic features of medical English is of great significance. To master the stylistic features of medical English is of great help in translation between Chinese and English. Only if we learn and know more about the stylistic features of medical English, can we produce good translations that comply with the principle of Faithfulness and Coherence. In general, the stylistic features of medical English are consist of its graphological features, lexical features and syntactic features. In this thesis, we started from the analysis and summary of the stylistic features of medical English, then analyzed some medical translation texts by using the stylistic features and the translation principles mentioned above, at last, the author tried to put forward some feasible advices.
