Among all the Emperors in the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Taizong has made thegreatest achievements in poetry creation, followed by Emporor Xuanzong. EmperorTaizong governed the country during the early Tang dynasty, while Xuanzong themost flourishing period in Tang dynasty. They two were quite different in terms ofideology, content, and artistic features when it comes to poetry. For the time being, theresearch of the poetry by Emperor Taizong and Xuanzong are still yet to becomemature, and the study of the comparison of their poetry is still to be started.The first part of this article summarizes their life and major achievements inpoetry, and the second part is a brief introduction of their existing poetry, and acompiling of the scattered materials of the lost poetry as well as the distinguishing ofthe falsehood, the third part comes to a conclusion that now there exists108poetrywritten by Emperor Taizong, and79poetry written by Emperor Xuanzong. The lastpart is a comparison and analysis of the differences and similarities mainly of theideology and content, and artistic features as well. For example, they two bothexpressed their ideas on governing the country, which were inherited either fromConfusions or Taoism. Emperor Taizong managed to avoid hedonism, whileXuanzong was indulged in sensuality. Emperor Taizong didn’t believe in immortal,yet Xuanzong was addicted to Taoism and the magic. In addition, the author tries togive a reason why these difference and similarities were formed. Two as emperors andgreat statecraft, in the poem reveals the spirit of the king, and the use of some kingimagery; Tang Dynasty see Taoism as the state religion, and attaches great importanceto the teachings of Taoism simply static, inactive, so the two poems areexpressed theideology of Taoism "inaction" governing the country; Emperor restraint pleasurewhile the Emperor indulgent pleasures; Taizong not letter fairy Emperor addicted toTaoism the Feixianguan of surgery; Tang poetry algae gorgeous, elegant and elegant,while the Emperor poetic language simple, spinelessKo Long, this is mainly causedby different stages of development, and literature stands.
