As an important branch of human culture and art, literature reflects the real worldand social life through the artistic image which is more concise and vivid thannon-literary language. Literature translation must pay more attention to the literarinessand aesthetic function of the language. Moreover, it focuses on transformation andtransplantation of the image, artistic conception, style and sentiment of the original,constituting outstanding features of literary translation that is different non-literarytranslation.The object of this translation practice is the famous black American female writerToni Morrison’s latest novel Home. This novel is quite different from Morrison’s novelsin the past which were touching with grief, mystery and magic. There are some simpleand soothing plots in this story. In the translation process, this report is based onNewmark’s translation theory and analyzes the translation strategies. Finally, this reporthas been finished.In this report, the first part mainly introduces the object and content of thetranslation practice, author’s background and the reasons why the writer chooses thispractice. Chapter One illustrates the course of fulfilling the task and time distribution oftranslation process including preparation before translation, translation process andproofreading process. Chapter Two illustrates the cases chosen from the novel andanalyzes the translation skills used in the translation process and the ways dealt withdifficult sentences including word formation, semantics supplement and deletion,disposal of the passive sentence, the application of personal pronounces, understandingof the long and difficult sentences, reservation of the language characteristics in thisnovel. Chapter Three introduces the theoretical translation foundation of this translationpractice. The theoretical translation foundation of this translation practice is Newmark’stext typology and semantics translation theory. Conclusion of this report is drawn in thelast part.
