Translation Practice Of Bid Documents

As an important international economic cooperation, international competitive bidding plays an increasingly important role in world trade and economic activities. Most of international bidding documents shall be written in English. The bidding text with general legal text language features, such as the precise and appropriate words, well-structured, the professional terms, clear meaning in his language, put forward a very high demand to the translation of bidding documents. But it is different from the general business contracts, it requires more rigorous, thorough, accurate concept. This paper is based on the translation of the bidding documents for BASF MDI (Chongqing) Project bidder. The text is a kind of technical material; this article aims to analyze the difficulties and solutions the author has met during the bidding document translation.This paper is divided into four parts. The first chapter describes the task of the translation, a brief overview of the tasks and meanings of the translation; the second chapter is the process of the task, including preparation before translation, during the translating and the review after translating. Prior to translation the author has done a lot of preparatory work, such as the establishment of the Glossary and the use of the parallel texts; Chapter four is the case analysis, which is the core of this article, with examples the author makes a brief analysis about the text from lexical and syntax; The author illustrates the characteristics of the bidding documents from lexical, syntax, and so on, and the methods to deal with in the process of translation; the last chapter is the summary of the problems encountered during translating and some suggestions the author gives.
