Based on Reiss’s text typology theory, this paper intends to discuss the text type of the bidding document "Training of operators of gas turbine". Accordance to Reiss’s text typology theory, this bidding document is informative and expressive and relative translation methods of bidding documents have been concluded:inflexibility and flexibility. The features of the document are analyzed in terms of lexicon and syntax. The paper emphasizes the application of text typology to the translation of bidding document.The case study demonstrates the application of text typology to the bidding documents translation and further explores the translation methods. Generally speaking, the text typology is inseparable from translation. Bidding documents have specific lexicon, syntax features, and the study of text typology is beneficial to the study of English-Chinese translation of bidding documents. The translator should take into consideration the text typology of the source language, and reproduce its style in the target language to reach the equivalence between the source language and the target language.Reiss’s text typology theory is applicable to this kind of translation. It sets clear criterion for translation criticism which helps the translator to choose related translation methods. Results of the study show that text typology theory does help the translator to analyze the function of the text objectively.
