A Report On C-E Translation Of The Bidding Document For The Procurement Of Emergency Equipment For Drainage Of XX City

This is a practice report on C-E translation of The Bidding Document for the Procurement of Emergency Equipment for Drainage of XX City based on the three rules of Skopos Theory.With the rapid development of the world economy,the bidding,as important means of international trade,has been widely used in commercial activities.In China,as international bidding activities have become more vigorous,the translation of bidding documents has become increasingly important.Translating bidding documents rigorously,formally and accurately can ensure that foreign bidders respond to the bidding correctly and efficiently,so as to facilitate the smooth development and businesslike work.Therefore,it is of great necessity to explore the translation skills and translation methods of the bidding document translation,which will have practical guiding effects on similar translation tasks.The source text involved in this translation report is selected from the translation project during the author’s internship in the translation company,whose total word number is about 20,000 words.Through reading the source text and based on Reiss’s text-type theory,the source text can be defined as both a legal text and an informative text;as the language in the source text is rigorous,formal and purposeful,the most difficult problems for the translator are how to word the target text to show stylistic features of bidding documents and how to make the target text comprehended by target readers.Therefore,Skopos Theory,put forward by the German functionalist Vermeer,is adopted to guide this translation practice to achieve the expected effects.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,the report is described in five chapters,which are the task of translation practice,the translation process of the source text,theoretical basis,case analysis,and the summary of difficulties and enlightenment in translation.In the main part of the report,based on the three rules of Skopos Theory,various translation methods are adopted flexibly according to the communicative purpose of the source text,such as part of speech conversion,voice conversion,conjunction addition,amplification,restructuring,literal translation and so on,in order to make the target text rigorous and formal,and to ensure preciseness,formality,readability and clarity of bidding documents.This translation practice report mainly explores the translation rules of bidding documents:C-E translation of bidding documents should be guided by the three rules of Skopos Theory,and the different translation methods should be used flexibly to make the translation meet the criteria of bidding documents compiled in the target language,and ultimately realize the function of the bidding document.The translation of bidding documents must be rigorous,formal and normative to embody stylistic features of bidding documents,and meanwhile,it needs to conform to the thinking mode of target readers,so that the information in the source text can be accurately transmitted to target readers.
