Unifying And Translating Social Science Terms

This translation report is based on translating Chapter4"Kripke on proper names" of An Introduction to the Philosophy of Language written by Michael Morris (a professor of philosophy at the Sussex University). The report consists of four parts. The first part is about the background and the significance of this translation project. The second part deals with translation process, including the pre-translation preparation, the process of translation and the proofreading after translation. The third part concerns project analysis. It first analyzes the problems of translating social science terms, namely, failing to recognize technical terms and master disciplinary characteristics. Then it analyzes the main reasons for the different translating of social science terms. At last, the writer summarizes four principles of translating social science terms based on her own translation practice:accuracy, readability, concision and convention. And the forth part is a conclusion of the whole translation project. In this part, the writer mainly summaries the experience and lesson of the whole translation.
