The complex and profound changes occurring in contemporary Chinese society inevitably influencesthe development of culture. Contemporary Chinese culture shows the tendency of diversification,visualization, multimedialization and consumerization, which deeply influences concept, form and actionof arts in contemporary China. The change and characteristics in conceptual expression of contemporaryphotography promotes the development of contemporary photography.The actuality and characteristic are analysed and concluded at the very beginning of the paper, andthen the contemporary art influenced by culture is arranged in order to establish a connection betweenculture and photography. The paper gets down to business from a perspective of the essential attribute ofphotography, which is objective recording, analyzes living examples reflecting the current situation that asone of the contemporary arts, contemporary photography is fused with other art forms and subverts thetraditional concept of photographic aesthetics, and attempts to demonstrate whether the development ofcontemporary photography deviates from the essence of traditional photography. The extensive use ofcontemporary arts in every field expands the room of photographic creation but, at the same time, makessome people astray and stuck. Therefore, it’s related to the progress of photography how the photographersbreak away from the predicament in this era of mixture of various photographic thoughts, which is also thecenter of public attention. As all can see, it’s the inevitable result in history and the certain choice ofcontemporary society and technological development that contemporary photography progresses in adiverse way, on which the discussion may help contemporary photography to maintain its independencewith its diversified development.
