Zhang Ailing is one of the outstanding female writers in the history of Chinese literature.She takes her place in the literary world and draws the attention of readers by her skillednovel writing techniques and unique novel writing style. Although it is seldom mentioned,Zhang Ailing is not only a legendary writer, but she also makes great contributions to the fieldof translation.As a female translator, Zhang Ailing shows her obvious feminist tendency in the processof translation. Western feminist translation theory, which advocates the intervening tolanguage, starts from the perspective of feminism, that is to say to make female visible inlanguage so as to make women seen and heard by people. The representative of feministtranslation theory summarizes the frequently-used language strategies such as prefacing andfootnoting, supplementing and hijacking.In this thesis, the author analyzes Zhang Ailing’s four translation works--The Rouge ofthe North, The Rice-Sprout Song, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The old man and theSea---from the perspective of western feminist translation theory. Through the comparisonbetween the translated works and the original works, the author illustrates Zhang Ailing’sfeminist thought in her translation works; the author also illustrates the western feministtranslation strategies Zhang Ailing makes use of to show her feminist thought. On the basis ofthe above, the author aims to make clear the oriental feminist features of Zhang Ailing’stranslation works.The author firstly makes a review about Zhang Ailing’s translation works to emphasizethe inadequacy of the study of the research of Zhang Ailing’s translation works. Secondly, theauthor makes a detailed introduction about the background of western feminist translation theory.Firstly, the author makes a brief introduction about the research background, researchmethodology, research significance. Secondly, the author mainly introduces the literaturereview. The author introduces Zhang Ailing’s life, translation works and relevant studies onZhang Ailing’s translation works. Thirdly, the author mainly illustrates the background, origin,main ideas and application of feminist perspective to translation. Fourthly, the author gives ananalysis on Zhang Ailing’s Feminism. Through the discussion of her life experience andtranslation works to illustrate her feminism in translation. lastly, the author makes aconclusion about the major findings,limitations and future suggestions of the research.
