WangWu mountain as the first grotto haven of Taoist, occupies an important position in the history ofTaoism. It has many of famous masters, masses of Taoist temple and rich of Taoist activities in the processof its development.WangWu Mountain Taoism features a long history. It is said that Yellow Emperor had once set thealtar to worship the Heaven in ancient times. Wei HuaCun, father of Shang-Qing Faction, had practicedTaoism here during Wei-Jin period. From Sui-Tang to Ming-Qing dynasty, WangWu Mountain Taoism hadexperienced from first found to golden age, damage of wars and renaissance and prime to decline. Startedwith the building of Jidu Temple in Sui dynasty, WangWu Mountain Taoism was developed by SimaChengzhen, the master of YangTai Temple, and primed by Yuzhen Princess who practicing in LingDuTemple in her old age. Many of Taoist temples which built by the royal of Tang dynasty had beendestroyed because of wars in Five Dynasties period. WangWu Mountain Taoism had been revived byHelan QiZhen, a master of FengXian Temple. Along with the prime of QuanZhen Daoism, WangWuMountain Taoism got into a flourishing period with repairs and missionary work.during in the Ming andQing dynasity, QuanZhen Daoism had been payed low attention by the emperors. However, Quan-ZhenTaoist, the majority of WangWu Mountain Taoist, promoted the development to some extent. Due to thesupport of the aristocracies, profound Taoist culture advantages, WangWu Mountain Taoist got a sounddevelopment, and therefore attracted many of famous masters living, praticing and organizing Taoistactivities here.Taoist activities of WangWu Mountain Taoism were closely related to the will of emperors. Someexisting imperial steles demonstrated that royals had laid much attention to WangWu Mountain Taoism.Government officials and masters of WangWu Mountain Taoism had frequently performed the Heaven andArethusa worshiping ceremonies in JiDu Temple. Especially, Quan-Zhen Taoist had undertaken veryimportant saced tasks in Jin-Yuan period strengthening the contact with ruling elites. Imam of Quan-ZhenSect had held some activities in the city of JiYuan, such as JiDu DaiSi and TouLongJian that closed therelationship between Quan-Zhen Daoism and WangWu Mountain Taoism and greatly fostered the development of Wangwu Mountain Taoism.Song Defang, a Quan-Zhen Taoist in Yuan dynasty, compiled a classic-XuanDuBaoZang, with theassistance of his follower Qin Zhian and Li Zhiquan. During this period, ShiFang LongXiang WanShouTemple provided the elegant paper, other temples helped the printing works and thus became saving places.At the same time, this famous classic had greatly improved Taoist literacy in WangWu Quan-Zhen Daoism.In the course of developing history, WangWu Mountain Taoism unique culture was formed by a seriesof Taoist activities. Known as “the best fascinating place in the world”, WangWu mountain highlights theleadership in Taoism. Also, the primacy and broad Taoist culture as well as lots of Taoist activities arerelated to Ji River. All above reveals the long history of Taoist culture. Modern scholars believe thatWangWu Mountain Taoism occupy the important position in Chinese Taoism history in spite of the loweracquaintance, exploitation and protection at present. Under the conditions of new era, WangWuMountain Taoism should actively improve their own quality. In addition, more support should be providedby local government to increase the connotation, degree and innovation of Taoism culture tourism throughvarious forms.
