Since the beginning of the20th century, composers have continued to search for new musical languages and paths, which hugely enriched the orchestration and its functional meaning as one of the consequences. Composers experiment with different timbres and colors to draw organic connections among various sections. Meanwhile, it is through these new timbres and orchestration that composers create their unique languages, generate special musical scenes, and express their exceptional musical ideas. Through analyzing passages of some works from different eras that primarily focus on scenery writing and sharing my first-handed experience in my own works, this paper attempts to discuss the compositional ideas behind these works and to transmit these practical methods into theoretical level. The composers’ creative ideas of these works and the extended listening experience induced in pictures and scenarios will be analyzed in terms of composition theory.
