Study On The Changes Of Zunyi City

Zunyi, locating in the northern part of the Yunnan-Guizhou, is the second-largest city ofGuizhou Province. It is the absolute battleground for militaries to seize due to its geographicalposition. Zunyi has gradually grown to the political, economic, and cultural center of the north ofGuizhou since it was managed as county by Qin Shi Huang. In the past decades, it was famous forthe Zunyi Conference, and was taken as one of the first batch historical and cultural cities afterPRC was founded. In this sense, the author takes Zunyi city as the objective of research andexplores the transformation of this city by using historical and geographical theories and methods.This study aims at showing the historical value of this city to provide recommendations for theurban protection and development of Zunyi.The warm climate and flat terrain meet to the demand of human in living environment, whichsupplies the advantageous conditions for the origin of city. Meanwhile, Zunyi is place where has avariety of nationalities. Gelao, as one main nationality of this region, plays an important role in theorigin and transformation of Zunyi. During the South Song Dynasty, the Yang family transferredto Mujia Chuan under the impacts of political, economic, and military factors. That was thebeginning of Zunyi as administrative center of this region and the symbol of urban development ofZunyi.The author would conclude the transformation rules of Zunyi’s urban development,beforePRC was founded, from early political orientation to middle military orientation to late economicorientation. The characteristics include slow urbanization, disorder internal spatial distribution,and a larger number of immigrants.This dissertation will conclude the urban development since PRC was founded and currenturbanization. The purpose is to point out that the future development of this city should emphasizeprotecting its historical and cultural assets and effectively combine with urban planning andconstruction; In addition, it should pay more attention to the value of historical and culturalresources and improve the urban exploration and use mechanisms.
