With the rapid further development of China’s reform and opening up policy and theincreasing international academic communication, there is no doubt that English has becomea definitely important language in international communication. And the great changes in thefiled of science and technology have attracted more and more attention for the great need fortranslation of English for science and technology (abbreviated as EST). As an indispensabletool promoting international science and technology communication, EST has become animportant discipline of English translation.English for Science and Technology is different from common English and it has itsown unique features. This requires the translators to acquire the characteristics of this styleand to put corresponding translating principles and skills into practice.This report is based on a translation practice of Nuclear Power-A Very ShortIntroduction, a book of Oxford Very Short Introductions series. And there is no Chineseversion for the present. The author translated from Chapter1to Chapter3. This translationreport consists of six parts. The first chapter is an introduction to EST and the source text.The second chapter is a description on the task, including translation plan, reference books,tools and so on. The third chapter is a brief introduction to translation theories used in thisreport. And the fourth chapter is case analysis. By comparing words and sentences of thesource and translated texts under the principles of faithfulness, smoothness andstandardization, the author summarizes some skills for EST translation. And the fifth chaptermainly describes problems and solutions encountered during the translation practice. For thelast part, the author makes a summarization to the translation practice of Nuclear Power-AVery Short Introduction and the author expects to make some suggestions for MTI students.
