Today, China has been in increasing contact with the outside world in economyand business. English, as an international language and official language in manycountries, is often used as a contract language, so how to render contract English intocorrect and normative Chinese is of great significance.This paper, based on Nida’s theory on Dynamic Equivalence, puts forward threeprinciples of translating international business contracts, that is, faithfulness, accuracyand normalization. And then, from the angle of linguistic features of contract English,including lexical and syntactic levels, the author analyses the translation strategies inorder to get a faithful, accurate and normative Chinese rendition, which will facilitatethe business activities with foreign countries and the prosperous development ofeconomy in China.This thesis consists of an introduction, the main body and a conclusion. Its maincontents are as follows:The first part is introduction, which points out the topic of the paper, the meaningand method of the research and the questions of the research, etc..The body of the thesis is composed of three chapters:Chapter One mainly discusses three principles of translating internationalbusiness contracts, that is, faithfulness, accuracy and normalization.Chapter Two analyses the linguistic features of contract English from two aspects,that is, words and syntax. From the aspect of words, the author analyses archaic words,formal words, terminology, modal auxiliaries, and nominalization. From the angle ofsyntax, the paper is focused on conjoined phrases, prepositional phrases, adverbialmodifiers, long and complex sentences, and passive sentences.Chapter Three, based on the above analysis of the linguistic features, summarizesthe translation strategies of some important features, including translation strategies ofconjoined phrases, preposition phrases, adverbial modifiers, long and complexsentences, passive voice and adjusting the elements of sentence.The last part is conclusion, which makes a summary of the preceding parts.Through the composition of this paper, the author works out the lexical and syntacticfeatures of contract English, and summaries the corresponding translation strategies. To be a qualified translator, one must have a good command of both Chinese andEnglish. On the other hand, he should also be familiar with cultures and businesscommon sense. In addition, due to limited time and materials, the author cannot makea thorough exploration of translation principles of contract English, hoping that moreand more scholars and translators will devote themselves into this field.
