Because of the development of the globalization of world economy, as well asthe further deepening of China’s reform and opening-up policy, people’s livingstandards improve a lot. Travelling to foreign countries not only improves thedevelopment of world’ economy, but also promotes the Sino-foreign culturalexchanges. Tourism information is the primary and direct channel for people fromdifferent countries; therefore the quality of the translation of tourist publicitymaterials is directly related to the tourism service quality. For those reason, doing thetourism material translation work has a great meaning for Chinese and foreigneconomic and cultural communication services. Tourism information is an applieddiscourse with the social function, which aims to provide the relevant information toattract foreign readers. Tourism is the subject which combines a variety of subjectstogether, with quite a wide and complexes range of knowledge, from the naturalscience to social science, from the astronomical geography to the local conditions andcustoms, even entertainment is including in it. Therefore, in the translation process, onone side, the translation theory is the basic, on the other side, how to combine thebasic theory with the target language habits is a problem. Whether the target languagein the context can achieve its function or not is the key in the translation process.This article is divided into three parts. The first section describes the writingpurpose, the characteristics of selected books and selected articles features. In recentyears, with the rapid development of the tourism industry, the translation of thetourism text is not only plays an important role for the tourists, but also for moreexchanges between the national cultures. The Best American Travel Writing2011is akind of the collection from other famous newspapers or magazines. The storiesincluded here are, as always, selected from among hundreds of pieces in hundreds ofdiverse publications. The selected two articles are not in the same style, one focusedon the description of the scene, and the other one is focused on the introduction ofexotic culture.The second section describes the problems encountered in the translation processand their solution. The problems include vocabulary, expression and long sentences. Translation is not only a simple language conversion activities, which also involvescultural and other relevant factors. Among different countries, language difference isjust one side, the expression patterns and habits are not quite the same as well. Duringthe translation process, obstacles are everywhere. In this article, bellowing each kindof obstacle, there are some examples which appeared in the translation process.The third part provides the techniques which used in the translation process,including amplification and ellipsis. The target text has to looking from the targetlanguage readers’ perspective, determining the translation strategy according to theintended purpose to make sure that the target language could be understand by readers,and ensure it can make sense in the target language culture and communicationalenvironment. According to the Skopos Theory, in the translation process, we have tofollow proper use of target language, in order to make it understood.
