| Volumes ? and ? of Xi Jinping Tan Zhi Guo Li Zheng as an organic whole collect essential works of General Secretary Xi Jinping from the closing of the 18 th CPC National Congress to September 29,2019,including his talkings,speeches,Q&A,instructions and congratulatory addresses.As the embodiment of the development course and main contents of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era,it is a magisterial book for Chinese and foreign readers to learn more about the thoughts of Chinese leaders and the future of China.The unique and charming linguistic style of Xi Jinping,among other factors,contributes to its glowing reviews,which is rarely seen in the past political commentaries and literature.Translation as a bridge to introduce new ideas and thoughts of Xi Jinping Tan Zhi Guo Li Zheng will directly affect the international community's understanding and reviews of modern China as well as our building of a foreign-oriented language system.Therefore,a proper sense of translation purpose of the political document in the new era and reasonable understanding of texts and delivery of linguistic styles bear great significance in terms of our language improvement.Based on the skopos theory,the thesis explores the amiable linguistic style of Xi Jinping as well as its English translations.According to the elements of style,this thesis extracts Xi's linguistic style from four levels as phonology,lexis,sentence,and figure of speech to evaluate the translation of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(hereinafter referred to as XG),and to analyze the impacts of skopos theory on the translation process with a focus on translation strategies.The study reveals several unique and distinguishing linguistic style of Xi Jinping Tan Zhi Guo Li Zheng: For phonology level,rhymes and reduplications are frequently used;For lexis level,four-character idioms,oral Chinese idioms,locutions,aphorisms,and allusions are commonly used;It is written in such sentence patterns as periodic sentences,loose sentences,parallel and repetitive sentence,and interrogative sentence,figures of speech such as metaphors abound in it.On the basis of the translator's effective targeting for translation purpose,the skopos rule serves as a guide during the whole translation to promise the accurate delivery of the meaning.Therefore,the translated version uses the strategy dominated by a literal translation.For example,the metaphoric meanings of words are not translated in the way of transferring meaning,amplification,or adding notes to maintain the original linguistic styles of the texts to its maximum.Simultaneously,in some parts,free translation is also used to contribute to its readability and semantic coherence.Generally speaking,the translation follows the principles of skopos rule,coherence rule,and loyalty rule and meets the theoretical requirements of skopos theory as the basis and coherence prevailing over loyalty rule so as to deliver the best reading experience to foreign readers.This thesis aims to provide a new research perspective to improve China's capacity of translating national language into foreign languages based on the analysis of the style translation,so that our new thoughts,new ideas and statements in terms of domestic governance and foreign affairs can be widely spread and accepted,thus contributing to the improvement of national language capacity. |
