The Translating Method Of The Economic Column Of The Economist

Translation offers a way of bridging communication by different languages and eliminating the differences between them. Newspapers and magazines still play a crucial part in the rapid development of information age for knowing the world instantly. With the trend of economic globalization intensifies and frequent international economic and cultural exchanges, China has become more and more open to participate in the world economic and cultural communication, which are inseparable from the dissemination of information. Journalistic style is different from other genres, with complicated and informative content, it also emphasizes on the article’s readability and entertaining on the basis of talking the truth and popularity in refined language. Therefore in the process of translation, we should not only follow the general principles, but also pay attention to the basic rules of news translation.This paper is based on my translating practices during spare time. With a10,000-word translation of articles in Economic Column of The Economist, conducts a study respectively from the views of translating economic terms, article titles, difficult sentences and discourse structures. By comparison with translations offered by the Chinese website of The Economist, this paper aims to solve the problems and difficulties I have encountered in translating economic articles of the kind, so as to promote my translating competence.
