With the rapid development of economic globalization, the information concerning economics has exerted great influence over people’s daily life. Consequently, the economic reports have begun arouse. The Economist enjoys a high reputation and a large circulation. It also has far-reaching influence on economic and financial circles. Along with international information exchange, translation has become a bridge of communication and played an extremely important role.This dissertation is based on the translation of reports in the economic column of The Economist. The source texts are selected from The Economist, which are related to monetary policy in America. Monetary policy is one of the key factors in economic activities. Therefore, to some extent, the economic reports in The Economist related to monetary policy carry weight by reason of this journal’s own influence. Under the guiding line of textual function in Halliday’s functional grammar, the present author analyzes English-Chinese translation of economic reports on its lexical, syntactic, and textual levels, aiming to study translation strategies of E-C economic reports.First of all, this dissertation presents researches of the translation study on The Economist and elaborates the significance of coherent translation in economic reports. Secondly, it gives an overview of this translation practice. The present author adheres to principles of faithfulness and expressiveness in translation. At the same time, the present author devotes to translating, modifying and proofreading, aiming to improve the quality of translation. Lastly, the present author analyzes translation difficulties from the aspect of headlines, sentence patterns and textual structures by applying diverse translation strategies and skills in order to reproduce the source texts. Through the practice report, the present author attempts to find the similarities and features in translation of economic reports. In this way, the present author’s translation ability can be improved. What’s more, this dissertation is expected to contribute to the relevant translation practice.
