This English-Chinese translation practice adopts economic news as the original text. All twelve articles are the latest economic reports selected from the websites of The Economist, with timeliness, accuracy and authority. The practice report focuses on discussing the problems encountered during translation process, and how to solve these problems with related translation strategies. The report first focuses on text analysis with selected economic news and finds that the language of economic news are concise, informative, and strives to use the most simple language to convey more information. Through analyzing the given economic news translation from other authoritative websites, the writer finds that the translation strategies in the light of functional equivalence theory can be applied to the translation of these informative texts. For better solving the difficulties during translation process, such as understanding of jargon, analysis of complex sentences and lack of economic background knowledge, the writer shows how to use translation strategies and methods under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory to ensure the success of translation.Through writing this translation report, the translator reviews the entire translation process, and finds that during economic news translation, translator’s economic background knowledge and the transform capability between two languages play a crucial role on the final quality of the translation. Finally, this report summarizes the experiences and lessons learned from the practice after the translation. The writer hopes that this report can be helpful on improving translation ability.
