This is a translation report on translating An Introduction to the Philosophy of Language, summarizing what the translator obtained from this real experience. The author wants to find out the big influence caused by lack of professional information, and how to deal with this problem, through the study of the real translation process, so that when the translators are faced with a rather unfamiliar field, they could have something to refer to and complete their translation better and faster. What’s more, the summarization can be also used as study reference for the students and who are interested in translation. The report mainly consists of three parts:background information and significance of this translation task, the process of completing the task,(including the stage of preparing, the stage of translating, and the stage of proofreading), and case analysis followed by a summary of what the translator has learned from completing this translation task. The main part of this report is chapter3——case analysis. In this part, with the thorough analysis of the cases, the translator displays the most difficult problems which she met in the process of finishing the task, and shows how she dealt with these problems accordingly. To the translator, lack of professional knowledge, which caused three types of difficulties to during the process of translating, is the biggest challenge. And the translator finally illustrates her ways of solving these obstacles caused by lack of professional knowledge--making full use of glossary, making full use of Internet resources, seeking the help from professional persons. The author believes that the rooted solution of this problem needs the great effort from the translators and the whole society.
