Directed forgetting is a hot research area in the field of psychology memory research. Directed Forgetting stressed the importance of awareness, to see forget instructions conscious to the forgotten requirement forgotten, and when to see a memory instructions consciousness to memory requirements to remember the items in the cognitive process. Consciousness has a very important role, stressed forgotten interested in control, intentionally forgotten different with natural forgetting. It is a memory capacity of the human control, the theoretical mechanism is more complex, nearly40years of research makes Directed forgetting mechanism more perfect theory, coding theory and extract inhibit theory, but they do not have a coherent argument, is more contentious, intentionally forgotten, two classic paradigm. The item method, and the other The list method paradigm, after extensive research, researchers usually think The item method paradigm, the theoretical mechanism coding theory. While the list method paradigm theory mechanism retrieval inhibition theory, but the item method paradigm whether retrieval inhibition theory does not have a unified view, and most researchers use only one paradigm to investigate Directed forgetting theory mechanism. The complex picture memory advantages can influence people to take the initiative forgotten cognitive processes no unanimous conclusion.In this research, based on the basis of the above studies, experiments are college students as subjects, a combination of the two paradigms, using different experimental materials, high-frequency words as experimental material in the experimental research, by comparing the recognition test TBR and TBF to verify the the theoretical mechanism the item method paradigm with the list method paradigm of intentional forgotten. In the second experiment using complex picture as the experimental material, complex picture more authenticity, with a picture advantage effect, by contrast TBR and TBF recognition test to study the mechanism of the directed forgetting theoretical paradigm of the item method paradigm with the list method. In the third experiment, using a combination of pictures and words, divided into four groups of the form of pictures-pictures group, pictures-words group, words-pictures group and words-words group, words and pictures by this grouping contrast verify whether intentionally forgotten the effects of assumptions.The conclusions are as follows:(1) The item method paradigm and the list method paradigm, written material and pictures material can appear significantly directed forgetting effect. The list method paradigm significantly less than the item method paradigm directed forgetting effect.(2) The item method paradigm, the words materials intentionally forgotten theory mechanism coding theory, the pictures material intentionally forgotten theoretical mechanisms coding theory and extract inhibit the theory. The paradigm of the list method, words materials and pictures materials directed forgetting the theoretical mechanisms most of extract inhibit the theory.(3) The item method paradigm, intentional forgetting of the words materials is significantly higher than the effect of the pictures materials intentionally forgotten. The effect of the pictures of the advantages intentionally forgetting effect will be weakened. In the experiment, we assume that the pictures-pictures group, words-words group directed forgetting worse than pictures-words group and words-pictures group, mainly due to the transfer-appropriate procedures approach theory, matching the experimental material recognition accuracy rate is better than not matching the experimental material, but in the experiments did not find this phenomenon. Pictures-pictures group recognition correct rate is mainly due to the effect of the pictures advantage. The words materials contrast and pictures materials found learning stage experimental material are words, the recognition stage experimental material intentionally forgetting the most significant for the pictures, which means that this condition words-pictures, neither picture advantage effect nor transfer-appropriate procedures approach advantage.
