Cultural skill is an important component of the communication skills. Fostering theoversee students’’ability of cross-cultural communication is an important content in secondforeign language teaching. In recent years, the research on Chinese-teaching theories hasmade some progress, many cultural-related Chinese textbooks have been published. Theresearches mainly concentrate on the theoretical studies; while, less studies focus on theteaching level especially the studies on the cultural element in the Chinese-teachingtextbooks.Most of the studies remain on the theoretical level and are short of the scientificinvestigation and quantitative studies. The outline of the cultural item is still in need.This thesis mainly focus on the following four contents:Firstly, the cultural teaching is an important aspect of foreign language teaching. Thisthesis concludes the previous studies and determines the research type of the cultural itemswhich based on the reading of the related books and materials.Secondly, this thesis treats the cultural terms as unit and chooses the Boya Chinese andDevelopment Chinese which are the most national advanced Chinese intensive textbooks asthe research objects. The author counted the cultural items in the two textbooks and describedthe presentation of the cultural items through the quantitative and qualitative studies.Thirdly, the thesis is based on the the contrast theory and the acculturation model theory.In the analysis part, the author contrasted the cultural terms and the the lexical syllabus andanalyzed the distribution of all kinds of cultural terms and their positions in the textbooks.Lastly, the author came to the conclusion according to the statistics and analysis.Considering the learning needs of the advanced Chinese learners, the author advanced somesuggestions for the principles, contents and the compilation strategies for the textbooks so asto provided some references for the textbook compilation and classroom teaching.
