The comprehensive course of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language(TCFL)is the core course of Chinese teaching,and textbooks are the main carrier of the teaching contents,so it is very necessary to study the compilation of the comprehensive textbooks of TCFL.Culture teaching is an indispensable part of language teaching.At present,there is a growing concern over the arrangement of cultural items in language teaching materials.Some significant achievements have been made in the compilation of cultural contents in comprehensive teaching materials for TCFL.However,with the maturity of language teaching and the diversity of learners,there is still a long way to go in the study of cultural items in comprehensive teaching materials for TCFL.Road to Success · Upper Elementary is a representative textbook for the elementary comprehensive course of TCFL.This thesis collects and analyzes the cultural items in Road to Success · Upper Elementary.It is found that cultural items about the contemporary Chinese society account for the highest proportion,items about the traditional China come the second,and items of Chinese cultural concept have the lowest percentage.The analysis shows that the cultural items about contemporary Chinese society are closely related to the daily life of foreign students.The cultural items are mainly introduced in the texts,the supplementary teaching materials and the exercises.Based on the analysis,this thesis also summarizes the problems existing in the compilation of cultural items in the comprehensive textbooks for TCFL.First,some cultural items are not close to reality and fail to keep pace with the times.Second,some of the cultural items are not interesting and the introduction method is not flexible.In view of these problems,the author puts forward three suggestions on the selection and introduction of cultural items: first,the selection of cultural items should be scientific and reasonable;second,the introduction methods of cultural items should be flexible and diverse;Third,the arrangement of cultural items should be systematic.
