Timely Art—a Study On Temporary Public Art

temporary public art is a kind of open public art behavior within time, as well as a manifestation of thoughts and concept, which mainly includes earth art, installation art, behavior art and public art activity etc. During the process of public art design, the main characteristics of temporary public art, namely temporality, rich themes and high interactive participation, have made it an important supplement of traditional permanent public art. Its multiple social functions are as follows (1) the construction of urban cultural image;(2)contributing to the development of social economy;(3) the optimized manifestation of the public nature of public art;(4) the main method of sustainable development of public art.First, this paper makes a tentative definition of temporary public art and discusses its origin, character and specific forms so as to summarize and classify it. Secondly, the paper proposes the strategies of temporary public art design and discusses the design methods and principles with an emphasis on exploring the social functions of temporary public art. Thirdly, the temporary public art theory is put into practice to perfect the study system of it. The temporary public art of Zhejiang University of technology is taken as an example. Beginning with the pattern of campus temporary public art, the basic ideas of campus temporary public art design are concluded, which is used as the theoretical preparation for further specific design and creation of temporary public art of Zhejiang University of technology. Lastly, the paper explores the trends of temporary public art and analyzes strategically the problems faced in the development of temporary public art. That’s the integrated structure of this paper.
