Report On The Translation Of Excerpts From Solo Flight

Children, as a special group of culture customers, should be given particular attention and the development of children’s literature must be accelerated. That is one of the reasons why Solo Flight, a piece of juvenile literature, was chosen as the source text of translation. In this translation report, all the problems encountered during the translation process were summarized together with the methods to deal with them. It is hoped that the translation and the report could be a contribution to the development of children’s literature and have a positive effect on the growing-up of Chinese children and the reform of contemporary education system in China.Empirical research, case analysis and comparative analysis were adopted in this report. A number of translation theories and methods were firstly displayed, and then the translated text was analyzed in order to prove them. In the process of proving, two translated versions were compared to indicate which method or strategy was better.The translation problems encountered and the difference in word order between English and Chinese, translation strategies, lexical translation and syntactic translation, etc. were summarized and analyzed by analyzing the cases of the translated text and with the help of the multiple standards of translation and the skopos theory.This report consists of five parts. The first part is the introduction of the translation task, including an introduction of the writer, an analysis of Solo Flight and its excerpts. The second part is concerned with the process of translation, including the preparations for the translation, the translation of excerpts from Solo Flight and the proofreading of the translation text. The third part is the discussion on translation standards based on translation theories. The fourth part is the analysis of the translation text, including the summarization of the translation problems encountered in the process of translation and the methods to deal with them together with the results. The fifth part is the conclusion.
