The Footmarks And Motives Of A Translator: Luxun And His Translation

Lu Xun's translation is seldom dicussed while his writing is talked about frequently and comprehensively. We may see lots of books on Lu Xun's writing, however, there is no such book up to now as concerns with his translation. It is the most difficult and poorest area of Lu Xun research. The author of this dissertation intends to provide a detailed initiation into the area although he is aware of the difficulty. The author has involved himself for several years in reading through all Lu Xun's writing texts including his letters and all his translated texts as well. Firmly based on first-hand information, the author has a close scrutiny on what kinds of books Lu Xun selects, how he translates and what he translates for, in order to reveal the outline and details of his translation. The author tries his best to throw lights on Lu Xun's footmarks of translation as well as his motives, to draw a map of Lu Xun's translation as well as that of his mind, to strike up the tune of Lu Xun's translation as well as that of his soul. The dissertation is designed to illuminate the connection between Lu Xun's translation and his mind, thoughts, persuits, viewing Lu Xun's mind from his translation and vice versa.
