The Report On The Translation Project Of Speeches Of The2012Pan-Beibu Gulf Urban Development Summit

The thesis is a report on the translation project of speeches of the2012Pan-Beibu Gulf (hereinafter referred to as PBG) Urban Development Summit. The project text, with11,634Chinese characters, is consisted of five speeches delivered by the leaders form five cities of Nanning, Guangzhou, Beihai, Yulin and Haikou, covering the development of achievements, planning and cooperation proposal for the regional cities. For drawing lessons from the translation tasks, the translation project is summarized in detail to specify the pre-translation preparation and analysis as well as the conclusion of the difficulties met in the translation process.The pre-translation preparation is elaborated from the aspects of investigation of project backgrounds, parallel texts, glossary, translation scheduling, and translation tools. Later, the report presents the pre-translation analysis taken for source text, goal of target text, translation strategies and target-text style.In the part of cases analysis, the difficulties of translation and proofreading are categorized into the cases of Chinese expressions of category words, proper nouns, four-Chinese-character phrases, repetition, redundant expression and long sentences, for each of which there are coping strategies with some typical examples for explanation.With representation and analysis of the translation project, the report shows:The useful information should be judged based on the correctness and the dependable sources, which demands a critical and selective mind of translators; translation purpose should be determined before translation so as to confirming what kind of translation strategies and skills to be taken; contacts with the client or clients are required; different translation methods should be adopted in a flexible way against diverse problems.
