In recent years, China has witnessed increasing cultural exchanges with the outside world. With its profound history, unique and splendid culture, China has become a fascinating place for people all over the world. Chinese Kungfu, a component of China’s precious cultural heritages, has served as a window for foreigners to have a good knowledge of China. In this sense, the author of this report thinks that it is of vital practical significance to conduct a study on translating texts of Chinese Kungfu. As a project report on C-E translation, it describes the translation task conducted by the translator for Preface and Chapter One "History of Wushu" from Chinese Kungfu. On the one hand, the source text is chosen because it distills the essence of the whole book. On the other, it not only aims to introduce to foreign readers Chinese Kungfu and its developmental history and to promote the essence of Chinese culture, but also to provide a good material for the translator to discuss translation tactics for Kungfu texts. Reviewing the implementation process of the project, the report focuses on pre-translational preparations, analyzing the text type of the source text and functions of translation, defining the style of the target language as well as illustrating application of translation tools. Moreover, the report, taking problems the translator encounters as the materials for case study, develops from the perspectives of translating culture-specific words, metaphors and four-character expressions as well as long sentences to analyze and discuss the translator’s train of thought and translation tactics he uses. Through task description and case study, the report comes to the following conclusions:Translators must be proficient in the source and target languages, text analysis and IT application; in doing C-E translation of specific-content words, metaphors, four-character expressions and long sentences, great attention shall be paid to the cultural diversity between the source and target languages.
