With the continuous development of the social politics, economy and culture,language has been developing and changing constantly, a great number of letter-wordsappear in our daily life. With the increasing co-operations and communicationsbetween China and the other countries in the world, more and more internationalstudents come to China to learn Chinese and culture. Therefore how to teachletter-words as well as how to choose letter-words to teach, as the same meaning asresearching letter-words on the basis of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language areof great important and have more practical significance. Thus, the research onletter-words can be applied to the education practice and teaching activities and becontributed to the development of TCFL.This thesis researches on letter-words from the perspective of Teaching Chineseas a Foreign Language. To begin with, make a summary of research on letter-words,including the name of the letter words, definition, classification, pronunciation, andnorms, as well as putting them into authoritative dictionaries. What’s more, It alsoexplains the attitude of academia and the national authorities on letter-words. Inaddition, it researches on the overview, definition and classification of letter-wordsfrom the perspective of TCFL in (divided into primary, intermediate, and advancedlevels) and applies different levels to corresponding teaching content. The last part ofthe thesis research on the necessities and principles of letter-words in TCFL. theobjectives, features, contents and objects of teaching letter-words. It raisescorresponding teaching methods from both primary and advanced levels (competitivepedagogy and collaborative pedagogy), enables the students to learn and masterletter-words in a pleasant environment. However, due to the impact of various factors,the research on letter-words from the perspective of TCFL is only the research onletter-words on the platform of practice. It really contributes to the promotion ofChinese as a foreign language. Meanwhile, the teaching pedagogy which rose in thethesis are expected to help the majority of TCFL teachers.
