The objects of the paper are the funeral words in Shuowenjiezi. The paper tries tomake a textual research of the funeral words in Shuowenjiezi by comparing their fontof oracle-bone inscriptions with bronze inscriptions and small seal script, anddifferentiating or classifying their meaning in ancient literature.The paper contains four parts.The first part is prologue. The prologue mainly introduces and analyses theresearch status of the funeral words in Shuowenjiezi detailedly, and illustrates themeaning, content and method of the research.The second part is the second chapter. This part mainly particularizes the funeralwords in Shuowenjiezi exhaustively, and divides these words into two categories: thewords about death and the words about burial. Below the two categories, these wordsare divided into several smaller categories.The third part is from the third chapter to the fourth chapter. This part mainlymakes a textual research of the funeral words detailedly. The third chapter makestextual research of the words about death headed by the word “sang”. The fourthchapter makes textual research of the words about burial headed by the word “zang”.The primary content of this part includes: makes textual research of the funeral wordson their form and meaning one by one, especially makes textual research of thewords’ configuration and meaning at the beginning of the words’ creation; arrangesand analyses each category of the funeral words about the characteristic on the formand the meaning; explains the inheritance and extinction of the funeral words bycomparing with the using situation in modern Chinese.The fourth part is the conclusion of the paper. This part mainly summarizes thebody part’s content of the paper briefly.
