This translation practice report is an introduction, research and summary about procedures and completion of the author’s translation practice of the subtitle of the eleventh episode of Hell’s Kitchen Season10. The subtitle translation of films and television programmes plays a more and more important role in intercultural communication, which transfers exotic culture and ethnic customs, as well as strengthens cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world. The author hopes to provide some useful reference for those who aspire to do subtitle translation through this report.This report consists of five parts. Part one is an introduction to the background, the significance and the thesis structure of this translation practice; part two gives an introduction about the definition, characteristics, classification and principle of the subtitle translation; part three gives an elaboration of the translation process, including the preparation, translation, and post-translation; part four is the essence of this translation practice report; with the Chinese and English version of the eleventh episode of Hell’s Kitchen Season10as the analyzing material, the author conducts an initial research on the problems encountered in the translation and solves these problems through the corresponding methods under the guidance of Nidd’s Functional Equivalence Theory; part five is the author’s summary of this translation practice and the improvement direction.
