A Practice Report On Conference Interpreting

As an interpreter, the author finished part of the consecutive interpreting for UAE-China Investment Forum&Project Match-making Conference during2012China (Ningxia) International Investment and Trade Fair&the China-Arab States Economic and Trade Forum. In this report, the author describes the conference interpreting process in detail, mainly including pre-interpreting preparation, interpreting process and post-interpreting summary, and selects several texts of speeches and negotiations on the conference for in-depth analysis.Firstly, the author briefly introduces the background of this task and presents the detailed preparation work, including collection of relevant data and terminology, familiarity with conference schedule, communication and cooperation with the partner etc. Secondly, through providing a number of sentences from the original texts and the interpreter’s interpretation versions on the spot, the author analyzes the main difficulties of each typical problem and evaluates her proper or improper settling methods on interpreting process and then offers the improved versions and coping strategies. Meanwhile, the author sums up a few unanticipated circumstances, such as the impromptu speech, strong accent of speakers and some other disturbances. Thirdly, the author summarizes the causes of problems in interpreting and puts forward corresponding measures to solve problems and make improvements in future interpreting. In the last chapter, on the strength of this experience in the conference, some influential factors and suggestions are also concluded in order to facilitate this kind of interpreting in the future.
