A Report On The Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Of Foreign Minister Wang Yi's Press Conference

In a global world,it is necessary for China to win more recognition and respect from other countries and enhance its international prestige.The government press conference is the one with the highest level and the greatest media value.The foreign medias will analyze China's policies through the interpretations in press conference.Therefore,the interpreters play an important role in the communication between China and the rest of the world.The author took the video of Foreign Minister Wang Yi as interpreting material and made preparations before stimulating consecutive interpreting.Then she made a comparative analysis based on the transcription of her interpretation and Sun Ning's.During this process,the author assessed the qualities of the interpretations of both under the guideline of Yang Chengshu's Evaluation Criteria of Interpreting Performance.Yang(???,2005)points out that the reliability in quantitative evaluation and the validity in qualitative description complement each other in assessing the quality of interpreting projects.Based on this concept,she made an evaluation criteria for interpreting performance,scoring from fidelity,delivery language and time control.Although it is designed for interpreting tests,it can be applied in the evaluation of interpreting practice for its reliability,validity and feasibility.Through this analysis,the author tries to find her problems in interpreting and puts forward some solutions.At the same time,the author seeks for suitable learning methods for the interpretation of press conference.
