In Chinese modern literature, especially in the May Fourth period, enlightenment pioneers shouted liberation and advocated individuality. At the same time, the eyes focused on children of hoping for a nation. The discovery of the children has been indispensable for the subject of national enlightenment during this period.In the era of human discovery, at the beginning of stage enlightenment pioneers discovered individual human being, and children was confirmed and respected for his life form, inner spirit, independent personality and his social status; modern children thought built construction and formation. When children are recognized and accepted at the adult’s society as spiritually independent individual. Therefore, they entered adults’lives, thoughts and civilization especially literature. What’s important, it exerts remarkable influence on ideological concept, thinking form and art representation in Chinese modern literature. A product of the Chinese modern start-up of children’s literature is the Enlightenment, but also it plays the important role in the Enlightenment. Therefore, the occurrence and development of children’s literature has become the Enlightenment writers who take care of one of the focuses.This paper is divided into five parts. In addition to preface and the summary, the main part of the paper has three chapters.The first chapter will explore the difficulties and the characteristics of the children thought have been established in China as a comb clues. The children were presented "accessories of adults" in the traditional culture. Until the end of the Qing Dynasty, the children are concerned because national salvation preserving political enlightenment need. Therefore, the initial conversion was from the traditional children thought to the modern. The enlightenment has discovered children as the unique nature of the person’s life in the May Fourth Age of Enlightenment. Because of enlightenment and salvation, children’s literature pioneers focused on the initiation and growth of Chinese children’s literature towards the modern sense in the revolutionary change of "discovery of the children". They were not only absorbing "children-oriented notion", but also translating works of children’s literature.The second chapter will be emphasis on great literary critic, such as Zhou Zuoren, Lu Xun and other children’s literary criticism, give a theoretical foundation of the start-up period in the modern children’s literature. In the light of "children-oriented notion", Zhou Zuoren and Lu Xun lays on different specialty in which literary concepts, creative method, stylistic advocate, had their own theory construction. It cannot be ignored that Hu Shi and Guo Moruo showed understanding and respect for all the children. What’s more, they advocated the sound of children’s literature criticism strongly.The third chapter will be elaborated theory and creation according, and fully respects, comply and satisfy children’s literature aesthetic need,"Children-oriented notion" is keyword of theory and creation for the reason that it can be fully respects, comply and satisfy children’s literature aesthetic need. Wherefore, the various stylistic gradually be developed and mature belonging to children’s literature. It can produce great effect of the works of children’s literature creative motif. On behalf of modern children’s literature, Bing Xin, Ye Shengtao’s work which is full of feelings of love and beauty, yearning innocence worship complemented in the sense of the adult literature gloomy tone under the main current of the May Fourth enlightenment movement for adding some warmth and relaxing color at the May Fourth period.
