Research On The Characters System Of Hua Xuesu

Mr.Hua Xuesu,who has always cherished the desire to improve Chinese characters,deeply feels that there is no systematic basis for the study of Chinese characters.He has collected and sorted out the inscriptions of the past dynasties,classified them into different clans and related to them.He has spent more than ten years in composing fifteen volumes of "The Characters System"to trace back the origin of the characters and explore the rule of their reproduction.Mr Hua Xuesu's book "The Characters System"explores the Chinese character classification system from a new angle.The characters are classified into fourteen categories:imitate heaven,imitate earth,imitate life,imitate insect,imitate bird,imitate beast,imitate human,imitate body,imitate hand,imitate foot,imitate palace,imitate use,imitate implement and imitate object.There are fifty-two families of lineage characters.The book refers to ancient written materials under each word and arranges them according to the times until the small seal forms in "Shuo Wen Jie Zi".The ancient written materials cited include oracle bones,bronze inscriptions,currency,stone carvings,pottery inscriptions,seals,tiles,stone drums and weapons,etc..Some of them are pictures and placed before the oracle bones.Mr.Hua Xuesu's "The Characters System"has a lot of experience in explaining form and meaning,daring to break the old frame,and giving full play to the theory of right language.It is also helpful to distinguish and memorize Chinese characters,and to understand the development and evolution of Chinese characters.However,most of the explanations of Chinese characters in the book are based on the understanding of the shape and sound of the characters.Some of the attributions are not clear,and many of them are far-fetched.Generally speaking,Mr.Hua Xuesu's "The Characters System" has found a new way to classify Chinese characters,provided clues for the development and evolution of Chinese characters,revealed the relationship between the origin and development of Chinese characters,and provided a good reference for the study of ancient philology and the history of Chinese philology.In this paper,Mr.Hua Xuesu's book "The Characters System" is taken as the object of study.The paper is divided into four chapters.The main points are as follows:In the first chapter,the introduction part mainly elaborates Mr.Hua Xuesu's life and writings,the current research situation at home and abroad as well as the research content,method,purpose and significance of this paper.Through the research,we find that Mr.Hua Xuesu's other works,especially Mr.Hua Xuesu's research on Qin script,are well known,which further reflects the little-known deficiency of his book"The Characters System".Unfortunately,that's what we want to study.The second chapter is the main part of this paper.It mainly makes a systematic review of Mr.Hua Xuesu's"The Characters System".Firstly,it introduces the basic content of Mr.Hua Xuesu's "The Characters System",as well as the reasons and ideological sources of Mr.Hua Xuesu's "The Characters System".It also systematically studies the category of events,the relationship between form and meaning and the establishment of basic characters in"The Characters System".This paper also makes a thorough discussion on the evolution of Chinese characters and the recognition and reading of Chinese characters.Chapter three mainly summarizes the value and shortcomings of Mr.Hua Xuesu's "The Characters System"in academic history."The Characters System"breaks the previous idea that only the first part of the Chinese character book is the original character.It gives full play to the right-hand theory and dares to use a large number of ancient characters materials.It provides new thinking for the classification system of Chinese characters and helps to improve the function of Chinese character recognition.However,there are also some problems in the book,such as the use of ideographic characters to describe phonograms,and some unclear classification and attribution.The last part is the conclusion,which further evaluates Mr.Hua Xuesu's position in the history of philology research on the basis of mastering his achievements and contributions.
