The Study Of New Period’s Military TV Play Series

The broadcast of "Eighteen years in enemy camp" in1981opens the door to producingTV series on military issues in China (referred to as military drama). Till now, military dramashave made great development in both quantity and quality. Its form and contents haveexpanded to diversity. The production of military dramas has been prolific especially in thelatest ten years, holding the position of “hit show” and “viewing champion”.As an important part of main theme TV shows, military drama plays an important role indeveloping the main theme and constructing advanced culture. In contemporary China，toconstruct advanced culture is to carry forward our national, scientific and public, socialistculture that is modernization-oriented and faces the world and the future under the guidanceof Mao Zedong thought, Deng Xiaoping theory and "three represents" thoughts. The theoriesabove are the theoretical achievement of Marxism’s chinization, modernization andpopularization. Hence, this thesis adopts the perspective of Marxism’s chinization,modernization and popularization. It breaks the traditional method of analyzing single textform aesthetics and communications, and put military dramas in light of ideology for analysis,in order to find ways to develop its modernization and popularization. At the same time, thisresearch is valuable to carry forward main theme and construct advanced socialist culture.First of all, the author summarizes the characteristics of military dramas from timedimension、expression dimension and material mining dimension, and makes a connotativedefinition. At the same time the author reviews the development of the Chinese militarydrama, and classifies the military drama produced after the new period. Secondly, the analysisis carried out on the new era military drama mirror language form, narrative structure andaesthetic culture characteristics so as to find how the figures in military dramas win theaudience’s favor. Of course, likes other kinds of TV shows, military drama has revealed someproblems in production，publicity and marketing which restrain its development, though it haswon audience’s praise. In the author’s opinion, the way for military dramas to flourish is todevelop with Marxism’s literary and art criticism theory to realize its chinization,modernization and popularization. Besides improving the professional quality of the militaryplay producers, screenwriters, directors, and actors, more attention should be paid to theinfluence of the policies and market have on military dramas. Our country should adjust theTV market access threshold, strengthen the management of television broadcast, coordinatethe marketing chain of military dramas and optimize the marketing mode of TV assessmentmodel. This is beneficial not only to military dramas, but also to the production of all kinds ofTV shows.
