The Research Of The Confucian Classics Quoted By The Book Of Sound And Meaning Compiled By Kehong

The book called New Collected Record of the Glossaries of Buddhist Scriptures （新集藏經音義隨函錄）, Kehong Yin Yi for short, was compiled by a monk named Kehong in Later Jin Dynasty (oneof the Five Dynasties). It collected lots of the folk Chinese characters in hand written BuddhistScriptures difficult to understand and the main aim is to analyze the forms, mark the pronunciation andinterpret meanings of them. Up to now, the research of Kehong Yin Yi mainly focus on its phonologyand philology. To our knowledge, the research of the books cited by Kehong Yin Yi remain largelyunknown. So our research and analysis focus on this aspect. When Kehong Yin Yi explains the words ofthe Buddhist Scriptures, it quotes many kinds of classic books including Confucian classics, history,philosophy and literature. Limited to the research time, we will mainly research on Confucian classicscited by it using the text material provided by Kehong Yin Yi. It will be valuable for many otherresearches, such as interpretation words, collecting the lost material and collating.Kehong Yin Yi has quoted1446pieces of materials from Confucian classics. We compared andanalyzed694pieces of them with the current version. And drew a conclusion that the purpose ofquotation was either for phonetic notation, or definition, or documentary evidence, or analysing theforms of words, or indicating text source, or comparing the similarities and differences between words.There are three forms of quoting form：quoting the original text of Confucian classics; quoting theannotation of Confucian classics and quoting the original text and its annotation of Confucian classics.To some extent, the content of quotations reflects the original appearance of Confucian classics. But interms of characters, it contains similarities and differences. The differences include variants, turninterpretation, borrowing and errors. Summarizing these materials will benefit the research of KehongYin Yi and Confucian classics.According to Li CangBen Kehong Yin Yi, using the research method of corpus linguistics as wellas the research method of combination linguistics and philology to launch the research work. Usingrelational database system to deal with Kehong Yin Yi on digital process through database modeling,importing data, creating a query and exporting data. On the basis of the corpus, searching all of thequotation materials from Confucian classics of Kehong Yin Yi, obtaining a result of quotation situationand characteristics, and consulting literature materials to proof it, so as to knowing the materials morecomprehensive and accurate, so that we can reveal the value on the linguistics and philology better.
