Zhang Shi is the famous Neo-Confucianism Scholar, Confucian Scholar and educator of Song Dynasty. Besides, he enjoyed equal popularity with Zhu Xi and Lu-Zuqian, and people called them "the three Neo—Confucianists in Southeast China".Confucian Scholars of Song Dynasty carried out Neo-Confucianism to the interpretation of scriptures and initiate a different Confucianism—Song Learning. It was not interpreted mainly with notes and commentaries like previous generations, but mainly with YiLi. As a representative figure of Hunan’s Confucianism of the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhang Shi againsted the study of ZhangJu’s annotation, but emphasized that explain the scriptures by YiLi. Meanwhile he claimed that in order to elucidate YiLi, we must absorbed some Sinology. For the scripture, Zhang Shi advocated to express YiLi by explaining the scriptures, and promoted Neo-Confucianism to criticize Buddhist. Zhang Shi pay great attention to explained Yi and The Four Books. He inherited the learning of Zhang Jun and Hu Hong, his The Commen of Yi at South Porch and The Explanation of Tai Chi are world-famous, and his learning of Yi-ology is an important part of his study of Confucian Classics. He proposed Yi is the tool of conveying truth and is not only for divining. Zhang Shi emphasized YiLi but also pay attention to Image-numerology. He said, "the sage use thinking in terms of images to get the meaning".In the Study of The Four Books, he wrote The Learning of Mencius i and unscrambled The Analects of Confucius to get benevolence, advocated the debating on the concept of Justice & Profit. Then, He and Zhu Xi discussed "Yi Fa and Wei Fa", "self-restraint and conscience" of The Doctrine of the Mean. He expounds "study the nature of things Interpretation" and "achieve truth on respect" of The Great Learning. These embodied the peculiarities of explaining the four books according to his viewpoint.As the famous Confucian Scholar and Neo-Confucianism Scholar of Song Dynasty, Zhang Shi stood in carrying forward the Neo-Confucianism, through explain Yi and The Four Books with notes, he made a contribution in developing the Neo-Confucianism of Song Dynasty. So, he played an important role in the history of study of Confucian Classics and Neo-Confucianism of Song Dynasty.
