‘The work of literature’ is a new literary phenomenon rising in the mid of the1980s,which is tightly linked with the tide of rural workers since the implementationof the Reform and opening policy. However, this literary phenomenon has beenneglected by the academia for a long time. The poems written by Xiaoqiong, Zheng, aworking poet in the21st century, are incredible quantitatively or qualitatively. Herappearance has seen the milepost significance: signifying that ‘the work of literature’begins to come into the horizon of the mainstream literature. The thesis attempts toexplore the life experience of Xiaoqiong,Zheng, as well as the value of the thoughtsand the arts of her poems in the background of the work of literature. The thesis can be divided into five chapters. The first chapter introductionmainly discusses the goal and the significance of the research, the object of study, theliterature review, and the contents of study etc. The second chapter is to explore thelife experience of Xiaoqiong,Zheng and her fruits of composition and lead to a seriesof problems, such as the problem of the reasons of the change of her identity, thenaming problem and the problem of universality. The author believes that thetransition of Xiaoqiong,Zheng’s identity is the result of the motivation of both theinternal factors and the external ones, including the diligence and industry of the poetand the influences of the era and the society as well as other factors. The problem ofnaming involves the relationship between the title and the entity. The author maintainsthat it’s fair and reliable to name the poet after ‘a female poet as a migrant workercoming from other regions to the Pearl River Delta’.The phenomenon ofXiaoqiong,Zheng’s poetic composition and her popularity is not quite universal fromthe aspects of the gender, education and the noumenon of her poetry etc.The thirdchapter is to discuss the ideological contents of her poems. Based on the classificationof her poems, the author explores the value of the thoughts of her poems, believingthat the ideological contents of her poetry consist of being tightly close to thebottom-class, resistance to alienation, being positive and optimistic, nostalgia for herhomeland, pursuit of the truth, etc. The fourth chapter is to clarify the characteristics ofthe poems of Xiaoqiong,Zheng, which will be discussed in the aspects of language, technique, construction, and style respectively. The author argues asfollows:Firstly, from the perspective of language,Xiaoqiong,Zheng is good at usingbasic lexicons and the abnormal sentences in her poetry.Secondly, from theperspective of technique,1)Xiaoqiong,Zheng is good at using all types of rhetorics, such as analogy, personification, repetition, parallelism and so forth.2)symbolism andirony are the two most prominent performing techniques in her poetry.3)She is goodat being lyrical directly in her poetry. Thirdly, from the perspective of construction, thepoetry of Xiaoqiong,Zheng is typical for the obvious effects of contrast and theultra-language elements.Fourthly, from the perspective of style, the poetry ofXiaoqiong,Zheng is featured as magnificence and spectacle, pluralism ofemotions, crudity and dignity, and the consistency of her poetry and herself. The authorintends to summarize, explain, supplement, clarify, sublimate and deepen the foregoingin the section of the characteristics of the styles of her poetry, making the partseamless. The fifth chapter views a transition from a micro-dimension of thecomposition of Xiaoqiong,Zheng to a macro-dimension of the development of ‘thework of literature’, exploring the cause of the phenomenon of immigrant working and‘the work of literature’,the overview of the development of ‘the work of literature’and the current situation as well as the suggestions and measures to promote thedevelopment of ‘the work of literature’.Finally, the author explores the influences ofXiaoqiong,Zheng’s poetry, revealing the relationships between the poetic compositionof Xiaoqiong,Zheng and the development of ‘the work of literature’.
