In the development of the painting history, the main theme of oil painting is toshow the nature or the reality of the life. With the rapid development of society and theprogress of the era, we are in the omni-directional, multi-level context of theinformation society, more and more images around us. Chinese contemporary artists useimage material to paint, in the process of creation; they combined the images and theirpainting together to make their own creation more infectious. Since entering the newcentury, the modern multimedia, network, etc. occupy most of our space. Theconvenience and speed of image has become the most important previous preparation ofthe artists. Using the image material is immersed in the frame of the painting gradually.Recent years, our daily life is full of image, we can’t help wanting to ask what thedifferences between painting and pictures. Artists use images and other material for thecreation, one is brought great convenience for artists; the other is to create anopportunity for artists to reconsider the traditional concept of space. How can we usethe image of oil painting material rationally, this is a question worth over in one’s mind.This is a question worthy of deliberation.This paper is mainly to analysis the study of contemporary oil painting in theimage using the method through five parts. The first part expounds the basic definitionof image and the relationship between image and painting. The second part mainlydiscusses the reference image of the relationship between painting and image in Westernart, Chinese oil painting development through the history review of the historyunderstanding image used in oil painting. The third part summarizes the application ofimage in Chinese contemporary oil painting artists’ creation, mainly on the use ofcontemporary artists of the image. The fourth part is the image culture infuses newblood into the pop art, which is mainly from Wang Guangyi, Wei Guangqing and AndyWarhol, these artists’ work to illustrate the use of images. The last chapter is the analysisof the advantages and disadvantages of the image from the contemporary oil paintings,so that we can create much better works.
