Experts agree a point of view on second language studying that reading is an important part oflanguage teaching. Exercise design is a critical factor of textbook compiling. Vocabulary exercise isone of the methods for increasing the quantity of vocabulary. Students in the intermediate stage aretrained by different specific skills, such as listening, reading, writing, etc. Therefore, vocabularylearning and application of students will be influenced by whether the reading lessons in theintermediate stage are scientifically and reasonably designed and arranged or not. The vocabularyexercises in two different intermediate Chinese reading textbooks are investigated and analyzed indetails, and the quantity, patterns and forms are calculated and analyzed on the basis of massivedata, and we will give some suggestions on vocabulary exercise design and arrangement ofintermediate Chinese reading textbooks.
