It is tragic consciousness that made Chang Yao’s poetry broad andprofound,for ChangYao had defined life as a strange with tragic spirit.The tragicconsciousness of ChangYao’s poetry contained western natural conditions,culture andhistory,and the essence of his poetry was deep-felt loneliness.All abovethat,ChangYao had struggled with tragic spirit for the existence.The thesis is diuided three chapiers except the introduction and conclusion.Theintroduction consists of three parts:part one presents the current studies onChangYao’s poetry;part two discusses the reasons why selected the topic and theirsignificance;part three clarifies thinking and methods of the study.Chapter onediscusses the tragic consciousness of ChangYao’s poetry,and it has two parts:onediscusses ChangYao’s life experiences,and another one clarifies the loneliness inChangYao’spoetry.Chapter two narrates the western spirit in ChangYao’s poetry,aandit has three parts:the first part emphaisizes on western and its beauty;the second partstresses on features of daily life in the western,the third part expound westernculture,that is the human backgrounds,history and tales.Chapter three aims to probingfor the life’s meaning in ChangYao’s poetry,it contains two parts:one aims to presentthe advanced awakeness for life,another stresses on the significance of life andexistence.The last part of the thesis is conclusion ChangYao---a lonely and tragichero.
