Jigong is a well-known figure to every household in China. He wascalled Daoji in religion of a Buddhist priest,a monk of the early Southern SongDynasty, was known as Crazy Ji because of some crazy behavior. His stories wereproduced in Song Dynasty, but came into the field of popular literature was in theMing Dynasty.This paper will sort out related documents of Ming Dynasty, explorethe spread situation of Crazy Ji stories and find out reasons why they werepublished in the Ming Dynasty, then identify the era of Qian Tang Qian Tang Hu YinCrazy Ji Zen master’s Lectures. There are three aspects of main focus as follows:Firstly, mode of transmission of Crazy Ji stories in Ming Dynasty.There weretwo main mode of transmission,including the oral tradition and text communication.By means of arranging the related literature, understand development situation ofthe stories.Secondly, the reasons why the stories were published in the Ming Dynasty.Qian Tang Qian Tang Hu Yin Crazy Ji Zen master’s Lectures written in the thirdyear of Longqing, was the earliest extant version of the stories. This chapter willfocus on the reasons why there was no text of Crazy Ji stories in the Song and YuanDynasties and the reasons why the stories were published in the Ming Dynasty.Thirdly, the question about the era of Qian Tang Qian Tang Hu Yin Crazy JiZen master’s Lectures. Based on the author’s life period and the customsexamination, determine the time of Qian Tang Qian Tang Hu Yin Crazy Ji Zenmaster’s Lectures to become a book and ascertain the period of individual stories inthe book.
