"Tang Yin Tong Qian" consists of 1033 volumes. It was edited by Hu Zhenheng of Haiyan in the Ming dynasty, The book was finished in Year 8 of ChongZhen Emperor period. It is a first masterpiece that collected all the poems of the whole Tang dynasty. The "Poems of the Whole Tang Dynasty" was based on this book and "Scripts of the Poems of the Whole Tang Dynasty" by Ji Zhenyi. The book was not published when Hu Zhenheng was alive. After the completion of the "Poems of the Whole Tang Dynasty", there were even less opportunities for this book to be published. Up to now, there is only one existing copy of this book in China, a hand-copied book by Fan Xiren, which is now kept by the Palace Museum Library. The book "Tang Yin Tong Qian" had not been published until the late 1990s, following the publication of the complementary "Si Ku Quan Shu" and other great series of books. This dissertation consists of four parts. It is aimed at an initial sorting out of the basic conditions of "Tang Yin Tong Qian" including scales, styles, origins of literature, and usage of the book. It is hoped that this dissertation can provide reliance for further studies. The first chapter describes the compiling background and process of "Tang Yin Tong Qian" By the means of analyzing the compiling style of Hu Zhenheng and major materials, I summarized the work continuously engaged by scholars of the Ming dynasty on compiling the general poem collection of the Tang dynasty, such as the impact of the work done by Wu Guan, Zhang Zhixiang and Mao Yuanyi etc on "Tang Yin Tong Qian".The second and the third chapters are mainly focused on the internal studies of "Tang Yin Tong Qian", settling the problems of the literature origins of each part and the practical sorting out achievements of Hu Zhenheng. To be specific, the second chapter is about the separate collection of people of the Tang dynasty in "Tang Yin Tong Qian". This chapter, through an all-round comparison, roughly summed up the major several sources of "Tang Yin Tong Qian" based on the separate collections. It mainly used the collections and records of "Tang Shi Ji" and "Tang Bai Ji Shi Ji" by Zhu Jing. With regard to the part of "Tang Shi Ji", Jia Erqiang started with the investigation on Ji Zhenyi's version, and roughly clarified the relationship between and among "Poems of the whole Tang Dynasty", "Tang Shi Ji", "Scripts of Poems of the Whole Tang Dynasty" and "Tang Yin Tong Qian". With regard to the part of the "Tang Bai Jia Shi Ji", the version system of Mr. Zhu was identified based on the previous work, which settled the problems of "many versions of the Song dynasty". In addition, the version origin of separate collections in the "Tang Yin Tong Qian" was made clear. I also discussed in this chapter the problem of the "Tibet version of Zhao Xuandu", which was mentioned in "Tang Yin Tong Qian" for many times. Another question to be discussed in Chapter 2 is concerned with the sorting out and compilation ofthe collection of old version by Hu Zhenheng. This part concentrates on the discussion anddescription of several important schools of separate collections, which also took Hu Zhenheng alot of efforts. The third chapter is about the compilation of poems of "Tang Yin Tong Qian", that is, the originsof poems excluding those of separate collections. It mainly studies the origin of literature, compilation of brief biographies of poets and falsification judgments of works etc..The fourth chapter is about the book usage of "Tang Yin Tong Qian", a summarization of theprevious two chapters in the respect of literature used. The most reliable sources are "Wen YuanYing Hua" and "Tang Zhi Ji Shi". This dissertation discussed the collecting situations of the twobooks in 'Tang Yin Tong Qian", and its role in examining and correcting the periods of authors. The problem of "Tang people select Tang poems" is also very interesting. Chen Shangjun hasexamined and corrected the compilation of "Tang Shi Ji" on "Dan Yang Ji" and "Yu Tai Hou Ji"."Tang Yin Tong Qian" also made use of...
