Solutions To Problems And Difficulties In Translating Subtitles Of Movies And TV Shows

This translation practice report is based on the practice of "Political Animal" and "Symphony"(the first and third period). And it is an introduction, analysis and summary of the author’s subtitle translation. The report consists of four parts such as research background, process, case analysis and practice summary. In this report, the first two chapters are an overall introduction to this translation practice, including specific task and problems in practical translation. Case analysis is the core part of this report. The author uses the subtitle translation---"Political Animal" and "Symphony"(English to Chinese) as materials. First, the author will analyze the stylistic feature, and then use the Communicative theory to solve some specific problems met in subtitle translation. At last the author renders a summary.The report also shares some translation experience, the process of translation, and some of the author’s confusion and comprehension for subtitle translation. The author hopes this report can help translation learners have a better understanding of subtitle translation.
